Red Panda, Drawn with Manga Studio 4EX

International Red Panda Day!

Posted on September 21, 2013 by BrassyDel

I don’t usually post on the weekends, but apparently it’s International Red Panda Day. I also just bought Manga Studio 4 EX on the big SmithMicro sale, so I tried out drawing a red panda in it. I have a Wacom Intuos 3, so it’s great to have, but I do have problems drawing on it since there’s no screen…

Flat Colors: The Evil Dr. Brassy

Posted on September 18, 2013 by BrassyDel

Follow-up to Monday’s post, we have the flat colored version of Dr. Brassy. Flat colors means that there is no shading. After this step comes the shading, which happens on layers in Photoshop as described in this previous art post.

Lineart: The Evil Dr. Brassy

Posted on September 16, 2013 by BrassyDel

The evil Dr. Brassy casts tenebrous tentacles! I drew Dr. B on bristol board with a mechanical pencil, inked with microns 005 and 08 size pens. I scanned the piece at 600 dpi B & W (bitmap) then cleaned it up in Photoshop. I used such a large resolution because I wanted to make sure the lineart looked smooth instead…

Logo Design: Studio Brassy

Posted on September 10, 2013 by BrassyDel

Hey, guys! I designed a new Studio Brassy logo. The old one was a little dated (the colors were not driving me wild anymore) and it was too long for the new responsive website design! That’s right, if you check out Studio Brassy on your phone or tablet now, it’ll rearrange itself all willy-nilly so that it looks good. The…

Final Colors: GlitterFey is Really Hot

Posted on September 2, 2013 by BrassyDel

Back with the final installment of this three part series on drawing GlitterFey, we have a fully shaded piece. Comprising 14 separate Photoshop layers, GlitterFey now boasts fancy translucent wings and five levels of highlights and shading. I’m especially fond of how her ridiculously pink (and ridiculously short) tartan skirt turned out. I stole a brilliant shading technique from David…

Flats! GlitterFey is Really Hot

Posted on August 30, 2013 by BrassyDel

A follow-up to yesterday’s SketchBlog post, GlitterFey is back again with flats. This means that, after following the clean-up process I described yesterday, I laid down a bunch of non-shaded colors. As you’ll notice, the hair is all one color, each segment of the skirt is all one color, and the wings are all one color – excluding the varied…

Lineart: GlitterFey is Really Hot

Posted on August 29, 2013 by BrassyDel

Oh my goodness, it’s GLITTERFEY! If you’ve been a long, long time fan, you probably recognize the name if not the character. If you played City of Heroes with us, way back in the day before it was shuttered (obviously), then you might even recognize this outfit and the big ol’ fire sword. GlitterFey here is a fire blaster, because…

How Does Your Garden Grow? Sugar Snap Pea Edition

Posted on August 28, 2013 by BrassyDel

This year my garden has been a bit… lackluster. In the spring I weeded, and tilled, and I did not bother putting compost down again this year because I apparently don’t want anything to grow. I also did not put Preen down early enough (I always worry it will mess with my vegetable seeds) so the garden was overgrown with…

The Last of the Faces of Cholma (part 4)

Posted on August 22, 2013 by BrassyDel

And there we have it! Cholma avatars 13 – 16. There were actually 3 more that I did for him, but they weren’t Cholma. There’s a movie projector countdown, a Dear LJ writing page, and one avatar of Evil Cholma, appropriately dubbed Wicked. Maybe I’ll still post those later? They’re not as exciting, since how much personality can you put…

Even More Faces of Cholma, Part 3

Posted on August 20, 2013 by BrassyDel

Welcome to part 3 in our series of ALL CHOLMA, ALL THE TIME. I did a huge commission series of LiveJournal avatars for Mr. Cholma, of Storytime fame, and he was so kind as to allow me to share them with you all. This batch actually features two of my favorites! I love the Science! avatar (no. 2) and I…
