A follow-up to yesterday’s SketchBlog post, GlitterFey is back again with flats. This means that, after following the clean-up process I described yesterday, I laid down a bunch of non-shaded colors. As you’ll notice, the hair is all one color, each segment of the skirt is all one color, and the wings are all one color – excluding the varied opacity I achieved with layers. At this stage, the wings were comprised of 5 separate layers in Photoshop (6 total if you want to count the layer with the inked lineart) and they were at 25% opacity to accomplish the translucent effect.
So I selected all of the sections that corresponded to just one wing and colored that in on each layer (remember, set to Normal with 25% opacity), which meant areas that had wing overlap were naturally darker. I then made a folder labeled WINGS and stuck them all in there because I’m a little crazy about organizing my layers. If only it were so easy to organize my studio space!
Monday I’ll be back with the shaded almost-finished character art. GlitterFey is part of a larger commission from one of my favorite patrons, Cholma, and she’ll be set in an epic battle scene with 3 other figures.
Can you guess who else will be in this fever-pitched melee?
