Isla Muerte: The Art Commission
PART FOUR
Part One, Part Two, Part Three
Not wanting to risk leaving a possible unknown threat to his rear, Filadelfo the Frosty decided to make a quick check of the bed chamber. Making sure the hallway was clear, he slipped quietly from the wash room to the open door of the bedroom. Peering inside, he noted a large fireplace on the east wall. Book shelves adorned most of the other walls, and a large four-poster bed sat in the middle of the room. A portion of the south wall was obscured by an accordion-style screen. A nature scene of sunny rolling hills adorned the screen.

Filadelfo 12 vs Room 11 (no bonuses for this roll)
Satisfied that the room was unoccupied, the wizard was about to leave the room when something gave him pause. Gazing at the wooden screen at the south end of the room, he headed for the east wall of the room so he could see around the screen without getting too close to it. To his surprise he found a strange device concealed by the screen. On the floor sat a large disc, approximately four feet in diameter and three inches think. On one side of it, a small post rose up about four feet and held a panel with mystical symbols on it.
Whoa, Filadelfo thought to himself. A transport portal? This David Wallace is certainly more than just an artisan or merchant. He approached the portal carefully and scrutinized the control panel. The panel consisted of a circle with four labels. A ruby was tethered to the center of the circle and stretched out to the top of the circle, so it covered the first label. The four labels were:
CumGuv Cuv
CumGuv Ku
BbaekLaek
LeLtu
“Well, well, well,” Filadelfo mused to himself. “This looks just like the portals the Archmages used at the college in Kedalton. The stone indicates the current location of the portal, and… let’s see… you move the stone to where you want to go, then after transport the stone slowly returns to where it started.” He studied the writing on the circle.
Knowledge Check:
Filadelfo rolls: 4
Knowledge: 10
Filadelfo 4 + 4 (magic lore) = 8 Vs Knowledge 10
“It looks just like the language used for scrolls,” he muttered to himself, “but I don’t quite recognize all the words. Except for LeLtu, of course. That means shop or store. Cuv is obviously the number one, and Ku is two, but CumGuv?” He stared at the ceiling for a moment. “Guv, Guv, Guv. Why is that familiar? Room? Room. Yes, I think it means room or… hall? No, room. Positive it’s room. So, something Room 1, and something Room 2, and it would appear I’m currently in Room 1. Maybe it just means location? No, that can’t be right.” He stared at the final symbol. “BbaekLaek? What is that? It looks like it has the root ‘under’ in it, but that makes no sense. Hmm.”
He wondered if he should take a chance and use the portal or return to the hallway.
