Shortly before the new year, I blogged about my resolutions for 2011. The two key concepts were “Get Caught Up” and “Take Better Care of Myself,” which basically breaks down to the following priorities:
- 1. Tasks
- 2. Self
Do you see what I did wrong here? I had started refocusing during the last week of December, and by a few days into January was already having issues keeping up with everything. It didn’t hit me until a few days later that I had, not just on my post, but also in my head, stuck Tasks ahead of Self. Let’s be real here: Tasks can be a never-ending list. Is my house clean enough, or is it clean? I haven’t washed all of the walls, SO IT MUST NOT BE CLEAN YET. Getting Things Done basically became a huge, everlasting excuse to continue putting the care and maintenance of myself last on the list, and driving myself crazy.
So, flip that list! Self first, then Tasks. I will not drive myself to gray hairs and an aneurysm early. That can be my new mantra. Maybe. It isn’t particularly catchy. I’ll work on that. But not until I’ve had a chance to kick my shoes off and put my feet up!
It’s about time! You work too hard sometimes. EVERY day needs YOU time.
I do find it funny that you can suggest I work too hard sometimes, given that a huge chunk of “Get Caught Up” is actually commissions for YOU. That you’ve already paid for.
If you would stop wasting time cleaning your house, walking the dogs, playing with Hanners, caring for your husband, etc., you’d be done with my commissions already! ;D
