I’ve been playing with faster coloring methods, like the white and dark red opacity method, but… I don’t like it as much. Yes, it is good enough and it is sure as heck faster. But I really, really like picking just the right colors for shading, especially with hair. And I’m happiest with hair when it’s got 5 different colors in it. Everything else I’m cool with 3-4 shades. I’m not certain anyone but me would notice the difference in the two coloring methods, except readers would probably get their comic pages faster. Not sure.
Regardless, I’m pretty stoked with the full color Kevin here.
And for my teen fans: when I work with teen artists, I constantly hear how hard it is for them to draw men that look like men. Drawing women is so much easier! I’m sure there’s a zillion things that really says, like about our social perception of women and beauty or even just the media sources these artists are exposed to (lots of them watch a lot of anime, including shoujo), but I’m not getting into that. I’m just going to say: keep practicing. There was a time I never thought I’d be good at drawing men, and look at Kevin now. He may not be any individual person’s cup of tea, but I honestly don’t think he’s going to be mistaken for a girl.
