The running gag is that I like to start my day with a mug of creamer and sugar and just a dash of coffee. Knowing that, it should come as no surprise that I’m not a coffee snob. The Hubbles has been known to ban me from his fancy-pants coffee using the reasoning that it’s not like I can tell the difference between that and The Cheap Stuff. Which is true.
And right now? I just want some damned coffee. I haven’t had coffee since… January? When I had to start taking iron supplements I dropped the coffee. I know it’s not good for me anyway (especially when I just load it up with sugar), but coffee is one of the things that can interfere with iron absorption. Boo! I used to be a five or six cup a day coffee drinker, but I cut way back just before getting pregnant with Pixie. When I was nursing her, I couldn’t even have ONE cup a day or that baby was just wound right up. Not a good addition to the colic and the milk supply issues and the whole not sleeping through the night for eleven months thing.
So now with Baby Boy’s arrival cleared for any time now, I figure I need to keep up the no coffee at least until we see how he does nursing and sleeping and then, maybe, I can add a little back in and see if he’s okay. The worst part about no coffee after the baby is born is that you’re up constantly all night and then you still need to function during the day. WITHOUT CAFFEINE.
And I know some folks function just fine without caffeine ever, like some of my family members who have caffeine allergies, but that ain’t me. Caffeine is the quick fix to whatever else is making me exhausted all the time, and damn, do I like a quick fix sometimes.
What about you? Are you a caffeine junkie, of one form or another? If not, I just hope you’re not smug about it!
