Having two dogs really puts their quirks in high contrast. Today we’re going to indulge in a little anthropomorphization of my dogs and compare their walking habits to, of course, forum posts. It’s pretty common knowledge that when dogs pee they’re also marking, so I figure it’s sort of like a post to all of the other doggies on the metaphorical forum of the great world outside. As every forum poster’s communication style differs, so do my dogs.
First, Tank: outgoing and lively, he feels the need to pee on every vertical object along his walk. We’re talking every 8 feet or so he’s got to lift his leg. By the end of the walk, the dog is trying to mark every blasted rock, shrub, or lightpost, but he’s got nothing left to “say”. He has to ration it. Matti, contrarily, will pee once on a walk, if even that. He’s got business to attend to, and doesn’t have the time or inclination to mark everything in site (thankfully). Matti just wants to go, go, go and enjoy the world but Tank is too busy stopping to pee on everything constantly.
When we relate them to forum posters, their tinkle time habits seem to really reflect the sort of dudes I would guess them to be. If someone else makes a post, Tank has to respond. It’s a compulsion, and his posts are numerous but brief (the contents may also be distinctly lacking). I swear, the dog is peeing out “LOL” or “STFU” every time he marks over another dog’s scent. Matti is the thoughtful poster. He seldom replies, but when he does it’s long and thought out.
Given that daily temps are in the 40’s now, you can probably guess which post style we appreciate a little more.
