Almost three years ago, Hubbles and I bought a run-down, foreclosed house that had been vacant for months. Unfortunately for Hubbles, I guess I saw a lot of what the house could be and not enough of what the house was.
One aspect of that is the yard. You can tell that, at some point in time, it was gorgeous. There’s design to it, and variety. Even a little garden area set up in the back with pipes for irrigating it. Time, neglect (and a couple of big dogs) have left the yard pretty barren, except for weeds. My friend Bre and I have decided that we are “gardening buddies” and I feel like I’ve gotten more done on the yard in the last month than I have ever all summer.
Last week, Bre came up here and we filled three large trash cans with yard waste. I’d already filled two with weeds a couple of weeks before, on a crisp morning when Baby H slept in. Today I filled up another trash can by myself, and the yard is really starting to look up. It’s looking more like a starting point now, instead of just a jungle.
Tomorrow we swap, so I’ll be heading up to Bre’s to work on her yard. It really is a lot easier (and productive!) working with someone else.
And hey – it’ll probably help with that last five stubborn baby pounds.
