The bed retraining seems to be pretty much complete. It went a lot easier than I feared, with only the first few nights of actively removing doggies from the bed. I think part of the success has been Tank’s “new bed” though.
We’re moving some furniture around to set up the baby’s room, and the extra bed is now going in the spare room. (For those who have visited before, I’m talking about “the orange room”, so bear that in mind next time you want to visit.) We had a very, very old futon set up in there, which guests were inclined to note that the wood slats could easily be felt right up their backs through the craptastic futon mattress appreciative of. So now it’ll have an actual bed! Aaaaand someday we’ll repaint so it isn’t violently orange.
Hubby and I had some arguments discussions about what to do with the old futon, since I wanted it out of that room and preferably out of the house. I think our actual solution was better though – it’s now set up (couch style) in our bedroom with Tank’s actual doggy bed on it. There’s room for both dogs, but Matti still seems leery. Tank, on the other hand, accepted his new raised bed with enthusiasm. It’s a lot closer in comfort to sleeping on our bed than sleeping on a dog bed on the floor is. (Probably because his dog bed kind of sucks. He had a really nice, expensive dog bed, and then he ate it.)
I still have the pregnancy-related aches and pains in the legs at night, but I get to avoid the there-is-an-80-pound-dog-on-my-ankle-related pains. The cats have all returned to the bed, when previously only Willis was desperate enough for love to consistantly guard his spot on the bed. Tank is sleeping solidly and Matti seems okay, too. So, I guess everyone is happy!
Just in time for a baby to show up and wake everyone up every two hours.
