Well, we’re about 6 weeks from Baby’s due date. Realistically, that means she could arrive as early as 2 or 3 weeks from now and still be “full term” or as late as 7 or 8 weeks from now.
We’ve gotten some of our baby prep into gear, like setting up the nursery. It needed a little bit of paint touch up, like finishing up the chair rail and some previous painting “boo boos”. That’s done, and I put together the changing table and crib. Hubbles put together my (insanely awesome) glider recliner. I would say I put together the ottoman that goes with it, but even though the glider was far simpler to “build” than, say, the crib, I would think that “I attached the included cushion to the already constructed base via the supplied velcro” is really pushing the definition of putting together furniture.
Oh, and we bought one of those travel system thingies. I’m slightly shamed, but the Hubby wanted one and argued that he wants to walk the baby by himself sometimes without having to use the front carrier or a sling. Fine. Make rational arguments. The travel system comes with a stroller which can take the infant car seat, which the system also includes (plus car seat base). So now with the addition of an extra base (they sell them separately) we can have the bases installed in both cars and it’s super easy to take Baby out in either vehicle. The infant car seat just clicks in. The issue with these seats though is that they aren’t convertible, so once the kid is too heavy or too long for the seat you have to buy another car seat. If your kid is on the light side, then you wind up having to buy a regular convertible car seat so that they can continue to ride rear-facing until they pack on some more pounds. Though, these are the kind of car seats with the handle that you always see people with at the store, sitting on top of the cart or being lugged around. Most people seem to think they’re pretty functional and handy – they’re just also expensive! But, I had a coupon.
So Hubby got his travel system and I was soothed by my coupon ways. (Also, we were trying to decide on color because X model came in a few choices, and I had one favorite and he had another. Turns out, my coupon had a couple of exclusions on it, one of which was X model in Hubby’s color choice. Certainly made the choice easier!)
I’ve also gotten the cutest damned diaper covers, since we’ll be using cloth, but that will be another post (with pictures!). Let’s just get one thing clear: these ain’t yo momma’s cloth diapers and rubber pants. Cloth diapering has come a LONG way. Sadly, I’ve yet to see any nice diaper covers in a regular store with the arguable exception of the Bummis, which I’m not interested in. And I’ve certainly not seen any of the All In Ones or Pocket Diapers, which are these totally rockin’ diapers that are seriously just as easy and convenient as disposables. These things are INSANE. But I’m on a budget, so we have cotton diapers and nice, wipeable covers. Good middle of the road option.
So next time: cute pictures!
